Digitalization Applications: Software Innovations
Over the past 6 years, the Steel Founders' Society of America (SFSA), with foundries and researchers, has developed tools for the design of castings with reliable performance under the Digital Innovative Design (DID) program. DID’s thrusts are: a design code like ASME BPVC, tools to connect solidification modeling and performance evaluation, and non-destructive testing for reliable performance assessment. SFSA has a new contract for the Steel Performance Initiative (SPI), which will develop next-generation tools, processes, and specialty steels for mills, forges and foundries. This presentation will show DID successes and SPI strategic research objectives, including alloy and modeling capability development, hybrid steel components, and automation.
