Dead-burnt dolime impregnated with iron oxide is an established and proven solution for electric arc furnace refractory hot repair for decades. The corrosion mechanisms in comparison to other refractory repairs are different, but with similar effects. With an optimized particle size distribution, densification and resistance to slag corrosion are increased. Sizing improvements bring the following advantages: minimizing porosity, maximizing contact for enhanced bonding and imparting flow characteristics. The results received via pyrometric cone equivalent tests, thermodynamic calculations and slag corrosion tests are presented. By optimizing the particle size distribution, it was possible to improve the corrosion resistance for a higher performance of Dolofrit®.
