Refractory-lined ladles are used in the steel shop. The refractory lining gets degraded over time and produces excessive temperature in the outer shell. Infrared cameras are used to detect high temperatures and alert abnormal conditions. Different situations can generate high temperatures on the ladle surface not necessarily related to refractory degradation such as spills or splashes, which triggers false notifications. False alarms can reduce staff alertness and real situations can go unnoticed. This approach performs a novel space-temporal temperature analysis of the ladle surface to classify the events into categories using an artificial intelligence model trained with previous measurements.
