Quantitative Assessment of Centerline Segregation and Other Internal Defects in As-Cast Products (Room 207 D)

30 Jun 21
10:30 AM - 11:00 AM

Tracks: Pipe & Tube

The internal quality of as-cast products can have a significant impact on the performance of the finished products. The internal quality of as-cast products is dependent on the nature of defects such as radial cracks, spot inclusions, porosities and centerline segregation. In the steel industry, the severity of these defects has always been determined by a visual assessment. To improve the continuous casting process for superior internal quality and enhance properties of products, such as line pipe grades, SSAB Americas has developed a quantitative technique for the assessment of centerline segregation, spot inclusions and radial cracks in as-cast products.
