In modern microalloyed steels, Ti and Nb are often added to control the as-reheated prior austenite grain size, the temperature window for controlled rolling, and for precipitation strengthening. In addition to the effects of Ti and Nb, slab reheat temperature also has a strong effect on the as-reheated prior austenite grain size. In the present study, the combined effects of steel chemistry and slab reheat temperature on the as-reheated prior austenite grain size were investigated.
