Better Control and Improved Accuracy of the Hot Rolling Process by Modern Encoder Solutions (Room Virtual)

In hot rolling mills, there are still outdated encoder and switch attachments that are not suitable anymore for the requirements of modern rolling process. Combinations of cam switches and absolute encoders connected with distribution gear are inaccurate and difficult to adjust. This technical paper shows on the basis of three different case study examples how to improve by changing to state-of-the-art encoder technology. These case studies illustrate higher precision and lower costs at positioning of screwdowns, better control accuracy at positioning of side guides and optimized reliability of looper position measurement.
