This paper discusses the main operational features that must be considered to prevent defects of continuous casting of billets for microalloyed rebar grades. Microalloyed rebar grades are becoming popular since the quench and self-tempered (QST) rolling process cannot stand for most of the modern construction standards around the world. From several plants that successfully cast microalloyed rebar grades, the authors could summarize the best continuous casting practices to guide newcomers in the field of increasing microalloyed rebar billet production.
