Analysis of Heat Loss in Oxygen Steelmaking (Room Virtual)

Heat analysis studies are vital for understanding and optimizing energy consumption in the oxygen steelmaking process. The present model uses the concept of energy balance for computing the excess heat based on various hot metal compositions, steel compositions, tapping temperatures, post-combustion ratios, and scrap-to-hot-metal ratios. The results were validated with the plant data from Tata Steel in the Netherlands and the analysis shows that excess heat varies from 2% to 8% of total heat input. This study also highlights different possibilities for process optimization by identifying the periods of excess energy formation.
