Heat-related injuries and illnesses are common among iron and steel industry workers, who are frequently exposed to extreme heat at work. Heat stroke is a serious heat illness can cause fatality. This project (currently in study) will involve students pursuing a career in occupational safety and health to investigate sources of heat stress in iron and steel industry employees, and provide effective ways to manage heat stress through assessment, control and training. The successful completion of the project will also help in identifying environmental conditions that contribute to heat stress and recommending preventive measures for maintaining worker safety and health.
