The paper describes the modification of a crop cobble shear (CCS) control algorithm to provide an improved performance of CCS time tail cut (TTCUT). TTCUT allows for consistent cooling bed length of the finishing bar by compensating for an inconsistent billet length. During TTCUT, the drive experiences overcurrent fault that causes production downtimes due to a potential cobble of the next bar as the head cut is not available. The fault and other repercussions may be serious, which can create safety concerns. The details of the engineering analysis will be presented, along with measurements. The finally solutions have been implemented and overcurrent fault has been eliminated.
