Non-continuous cold rolling mills, such as reversing mills or stand-alone tandem mills, are the optimal solution in terms of investment cost and operating flexibility for a limited production capacity. On the other side, material losses at strip head and tail end due to out-of-thickness tolerance lengths are increasing operating costs. Newly developed technologies, such as Yield Boost and Mega Coil, for the threading of strip head and tail in close roll gap mode and the processing of heavier coils are aimed at improving product yield and plant capacity.
