Rural living and rural poverty present many challenges. Access is limited because of remoteness, income and availability. Small teaching faculties which results in fewer scheduling options deter student access to a wide range of challenging academic course work as they prepare for college and career readiness and hamper differentiated instruction to address individual learner needs. Poverty restricts home access and availability to an enriching educational environment. Limited wireless local area network availability impedes technological opportunities and exploration. A small rural district has overcome these obstacles of remoteness, rural poverty and limited broadband by developing a K-12 1:1 computing program. Explore the processes, professional development and philosophy involved, using only general funds, to deliver a twenty-first education with a rich 24/7 learning platform to all students which provides personalized learning to overcome the rural achievement gap.
