Tracks: Track C - Optimizing Plant Operation

One of the worst incidents that can be experienced at a power plant is a generator motoring incident. There are volumes written about this and the consequences can be catastrophic in nature. When this happens.usually the station is in for a long period of downtime while the rotor is removed, inspected, bundled up and then transported to an off-site facility for repairs. Average downtime can be 3-4 months. Cost can run into the millions of dollars plus it triggers things like business interruption insurance claims. So how does a plant deal with such an event? Traditionally. after the initial event has happened, a plan is devised and set in motion. In all cases insurance groups are involved from the very beginning. Are there any other alternatives? Here is a case study on an alternative and how this was performed at out facility.
