Counselors have a responsibility to advocate for at-risk populations. Despite our role as advocates, discussion about promoting social justice for LGBT people in counselor education is limited. This session will discuss counselors’ ally roles and development of ally identity. The session will present case studies and discuss how counselor educators and supervisors can guide new counselors toward developing awareness, knowledge, and skills for the benefit of LGBT advocacy (Asta, 2011).
