The MBTA Red and Orange Line Infrastructure Improvements Program – Addressing Infrastructure Needs While Maintaining Service (Room Sagamore 6)

The MBTA is embarking on the replacement of its rapid transit vehicles for their Red and Orange Lines. This requires changes to maintenance facilities, systems infrastructure, yards and test tracks. As with any agency, there are opportunities to upgrade outdated infrastructure and perform work with a long-term strategy in mind, all while maintaining transportation service that is critical to the greater Boston area. The Red Line/Orange Line Infrastructure Improvements Program will address this critical need in three phases – Vehicle Critical Work, Signals Upgrades, and Long-Term State of Good Repair. The MBTA and its Program Management Consultant, consisting of a Joint Venture between Patrick Engineering and Mott MacDonald, will present its strategic program plan and provide an update of the individual projects.
