Multiple laws protect against disability-based harassment. Still, studies show students with disabilities are more likely to be victims of bullying. They also are more likely to display bullying behaviors and may be less likely to fully understand the consequences of their online actions. A general curriculum to teach students online safety and appropriate social media behavior may not be sufficient. Erin Gilsbach will examine the latest issues concerning cyberbullying and students with special needs. Through an engaging framework of scenarios, research, and law, Erin will identify the legal requirements your district has in this evolving area. She also will offer practical solutions to consider in your district-based efforts to protect students and improve online safety.
