Although school districts typically provide special education and related services to students with disabilities in public or private school settings, there are some students with disabilities whose medical or other needs are such that they cannot be educated in a school setting. Determining when, how, and to what extent homebound services should be provided for this unique population can be challenging and complex for school personnel, both legally and practically. In this session, attorney Teri Engler will address the most common issues that can arise when providing FAPE to homebound students with disabilities under the IDEA, from child find and evaluation issues through the programmatic decision-making and service delivery aspects of a school district’s responsibilities.
