Tutorial: An Introduction to Cyber Resiliency (Room 315)

Our national security, critical infrastructures and information technology environments are subject to escalating cyber-attacks by advanced cyber adversaries. These adversaries, commonly known as the advanced persistent threat), are a nation state or an organized crime cartel with sophisticated levels of expertise, significant resources, persistently attacking high value systems of critical organizations. These systems and architectures fail or are compromised when subjected to advanced and adaptive cyber attacks, resulting in unsuccessful, disrupted or compromised mission operations. Preventing advanced cyber adversaries from gaining entrance to our systems and infrastructures is a strategy that is prone to failure. We must make the job of the adversary more difficult, costly or time consuming. Ensuring mission assurance through cyber resiliency is a key initiative across the DoD; Cyber resiliency enables "fighting through" an attack, continuing a mission, even if in degraded mode.   Today, cyber resiliency offers the best hope for achieving mission and business goals in the face of the advanced persistent threat. The Introduction to Cyber Resiliency Tutorial provides an overview and introduction to the topic of Cyber resiliency along with frameworks, tools and strategies for analyzing systems and environments, and key principles and strategies for implementing cyber resilience. This tutorial helps participants understand the basics of mission assurance through the implementation of cyber resiliency.
