The timing couldn’t be better for Bold who is in the middle of a hiring blitz to ramp up production on their numerous innovative tech and ecommerce projects.

Since hiring their first employee at a Starbucks in downtown Winnipeg to come work in a makeshift basement office, the founders have been determined to create a workplace that they would want to come to everyday.

Less than four years later, Bold now inhabits a sprawling 26,000 square foot office in Winnipeg’s south end. The Globe has the company listed at 41 full-time employees, which was true at the time of the nomination. As of today Bold employs 143 full-time staff.

“At first it wasn’t easy.” said co-founder Stefan Maynard. “We had great products and a great little company, but hiring was difficult. We were [at the time] in a rural area. We had to show people what we were all about.”

From day one, Bold has offered flexible work hours, daily lunches, social activities in the office, and profit sharing, and an overall comfortable place to work. Their ethos has paid off.

The result is a buy-in to the company’s work hard/play hard mentality. “All the games and activities and lunches are surface culture.” said Jason Myers, one of Bold’s co-founders. “The real office culture is how hard everyone works to take owenship of their role...to have pride in the company and the products we roll out.”

Also this week, the Bold founders were nominated for CBC’s Future 40 as all four founders are currently under 40 years old.
