New VDO Autodiagnos Check Electronic Service Tool Simplifies Service

• Streamlined efficiency – quick access to vehicle systems supports service center tasks such as vehicle health check, engine, braking systems, transmission, SRS/Airbag, climate and steering/suspension

• Quick and easy menu navigation – just select the vehicle system and manufacturer and start the service immediately

• Easy to use – no detailed diagnostic knowledge necessary, thanks to independent ECU identification

• Ideal for everyday use in any service center – the tool covers all the essential service applications of all major manufacturers

Allentown, PA, November 2016. The international technology company, Continental, is showcasing its new “VDO Autodiagnos Check” service tool for service centers at the 2016 AAPEX Show in Las Vegas, NV. The tool’s specialty is the simplification of everyday service applications. Continental reduced the tool’s complexity so that service center technicians who do not specialize in vehicle diagnostics could use it. No special training is required to successfully operate the tool.

Many diagnostic tools are not designed for pure service applications and can be complicated to use, simply because they are primarily designed for comprehensive troubleshooting, and the technician might need to know exactly which system or controller needs to be diagnosed for the task at hand. Continental offers an alternative with this new service tool.

The practical concept of Autodiagnos Check is to provide the vehicle service industry with an absolute maximum of efficiency. This is made possible by ‘FastCheck,’ a menu system that saves valuable time by guiding the user to the right system and service requirements with just a few clicks. Service centers that do not focus on diagnostics can also benefit greatly from the service side of their business, because Autodiagnos Check covers all the essential service applications of all major manufacturers.

Get straight into the service task thanks to easy plug-and-play

Just like the plug-and-play principle from computer technology, Autodiagnos Check is ready to start its service tasks without all the usual unnecessary steps and the FastCheck service functions are available for selection immediately after tool startup. In an easy-to-understand menu arrangement, service functions are clearly listed by vehicle system such as braking, airbag, battery, and climate conditioning. All the technician has to do is select the vehicle manufacturer and model (if required) then model year and the corresponding ECU.

Technicians no longer need to know all the details about which function can be found in which control unit; these are listed in the menu. Data parameters can be selected individually or as a group, and are displayed alpha-numerically in real time. The tool then guides the user through the service process step-by-step, following a basic FastCheck rule. Only the information relevant to the task at hand is displayed. The technician, regardless of skill level, can get to the required service quickly and reliably, maximizing efficiency.

Simplicity ensures suitability in everyday use

Simplicity is the basic principle of Autodiagnos Check. The tool is as simple to use as an electronic screwdriver. It has no irrelevant features that can complicate menu navigation and increase the time needed to perform a service. “We have redefined the service concept with our FastCheck functions based on the plug-and-play concept. With only a few clicks, the user is guided directly to the task,” says Dominik Wrede, Product Manager Diagnostics & Services at Continental.

The Autodiagnos Check covers all of the important service applications such as resetting service intervals after an oil change or inspection, “learning” batteries and engine components, regenerating diesel particulate filters, coding fuel injectors, as well as reading and clearing DTCs from various ECUs. The Autodiagnos Check also actuates and calibrates the electric parking brake and resets body components such as xenon headlights and steering angle sensors. The tool is packaged with a quick start guide, OBDII cables, and charger in a convenient carrying case.
