Chrissi Ross Nimmo, Cherokee Nation citizen, is the Senior Assistant Attorney General for Cherokee Nation. For the tribe, Chrissi primarily focuses on in-house counsel duties, gaming, and cases and issues involving the Indian Child Welfare Act. Past responsibilities include tribal prosecution. She was lead counsel for Cherokee Nation in Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl (known as “Baby Veronica”) before both the United States Supreme Court. She has represented Cherokee Nation in over 300 ICWA cases. Chrissi also serves as a Special Judge for the Kaw Nation in their newly established Domestic Violence Court. In 2013, Chrissi was awarded the Cherokee National Statesmanship Award which is “given in recognition to an individual who, as a public servant, epitomizes the service leader ideal, exemplifying Cherokee values and acting with respect, dignity and graciousness while working for the betterment of the Cherokee Nation and its citizens.” In 2015, Chrissi was named one of The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED) “Native American 40 Under 40.” That recognition is bestowed upon those “who have demonstrated leadership, initiative, and dedication and made significant contributions in business and their community.” Chrissi and her husband Jim, a Captain with the Tulsa Fire Department, reside in Tahlequah with their 2 year old twins, Mattie and James, and are adding a little girl to their family in August. Licenses Chrissi is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, Supreme Court of Cherokee Nation, U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Northern Districts of Oklahoma, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and United States Supreme Court.
