AJ Reid has served numerous roles as a safety and health specialist and industrial hygienist in her 22 years. She completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Environmental and Public Health in 1993 and received a Master of Public Health from Tulane University in 2008. A former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, she began working for OSHA in 1997 in Region IV Raleigh, NC where she handled both compliance and state plan monitoring responsibilities. In 2003, she accepted a position with the industrial hygiene division at U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development’s National Exposure Research Laboratory in Durham, NC. There she developed study methodologies and conducted employee exposure monitoring for the Reproductive Toxicology Division. In 2010, She returned to OSHA taking a position at the Fort Worth Area Office where she produced one of OSHA’s most noteworthy significant health cases resulting in the Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award. In 2011, she was promoted as the State Programs Manager in OSHA Region X Office Seattle, responsible for monitoring the state plan activities of Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. She served as Project Officer on detail under the Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs in Washington, DC, was later appointed as the Acting Assistant Regional Administrator for Enforcement Programs in Region X. Currently she leads the San Diego Area Office as Area Director and oversees all federal jurisdiction establishments in southern California and provides federal oversight monitoring the state’s OSHA enforcement and consultation programs.
