National Indian Cannabis Coalition

Jeff Doctor’s career in the cannabis industry launched in 2013 as an investor in a licensed cultivation and production operation in Maine. In 2014 First Wave Wellness was established with the purpose of attaining state licenses for medical marijuana; the initial state was Illinois. FWW managed a consulting arrangement that resulted in a license in Nevada, and consulted on an application in New York State. When tribal governments started exploring cannabis operations on Native land, Jeff subsequently founded the National Indian Cannabis Coalition. Established in 2015, NICC was formed to guide tribal entities through the initial considerations and challenges associated with entering the regulated cannabis market. NICC’s initiatives include helping create self-sufficient communities, decreasing reliance on federal funding and positioning Indian Country as leaders in the global cannabis and hemp markets. NICC also provides education and guidance on collaboration with tribal leaders, industry professionals and elected officials relative to the emerging regulated cannabis industry. NICC also provides guidance on legislative and policy initiatives for Indian Country. Jeff is currently the Co-founder and CEO of Turtle Island Corporation. A First Nations global cannabis company based on the Canadian portion of the Akwesasne Mohawk reserve. Turtle Island Corporation (TIC) is a holding company formed to capitalize on the growing legal cannabis markets to create shared economic development for First Nations across a global network. TIC is an early stage Canadian based company that is currently a privately-held company incorporated in 2018. TIC plans to be involved in legal cannabis cultivation and processing activities in Canada, South America, Malta and the United States markets.
