Associate Professor of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Director of Deep Orange Vehicle Development Program Digital Engineering Focus Area Lead of VIPR-GS Center

Gregory Mocko is an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Clemson University. He is the Director of the Deep Orange Vehicle Development Program, Associate Director of Education and Training at the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Center and Director of External Engagement for the Virtual Prototyping of Autonomy-Enabled Ground Systems (VIPR-GS) Center at Clemson University. In addition, he leads the Digital Engineering Focus Area Lead in VIPR-GS and is a Co-Director of the Clemson Engineering Design Applications and Research Group. He received the BS degree in mechanical engineering and material Science from University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT USA in 1999, MS degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR USA in 2001 and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta GA USA in 2006. His research interests include modeling and simulation, digital twins & digital threads, model-based systems engineering, design optimization and tradespace exploration, and immersive technologies to support conceptual design exploration. His research is supported NSF, BMW Manufacturing Corporation, BMW AG, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Johnson Controls Incorporated, US Army TACOM / GVSC, Michelin, The Boeing Company, South Carolina Department of Commerce, and Fraunhofer USA Alliance. He mentors graduate and undergraduate students through industry and government partnerships and fosters interdisciplinary approaches to solving complex engineering challenges. He has published over 100 articles and is an active member of ASME and SAE. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and outdoor activities including Ironman and half Ironman triathlons, cycling, hiking, and alpine skiing.
