Lieutenant Jason Moore was born in Florence, South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina—Columbia in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Upon graduation, he served as the Director of Youth and Christian Education at Lee Road United Methodist Church. In 2002, he became the Assistant Pastor of Children, Youth, and Young Adults at Wesley United Methodist Church. In 2004, he completed the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidates School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. In 2005, he completed The Basic School and was assigned as a Logistics Officer. Upon completion, he was assigned to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion where he served as the Motor Transport Platoon Commander, Battalion S-4 Officer, and the Executive Officer of Engineer Support Company. In 2007, he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as a Military Training Team Advisor. In May 2008, LT Moore was assigned to independent duty where he served as the Officer in Charge of Detachment A, Marine Wing Support Squadron 472. In August 2010, LT Moore was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion-6 where he served as the Bravo Company Commander and deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon return, he served as the Battalion Operations Officer and the Future Operations Officer. In July 2013, he resigned his commission to enter full-time ministry. From August 2013 to January 2017, he served as the Youth Director for First Presbyterian Church. During this time, he completed his Masters of Divinity Degree from Erskine Theological Seminary. In February 2017, he was ordained as the Associate Pastor of Youth and Young Adults. In November 2017, he was installed as the Senior Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church. In April 2022, LT Moore returned to military service to serve as a chaplain and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Upon completion of Officer Development School, LT Moore reported to the Chaplains Basic Leadership Course. From August 2022 to September 2023, LT Moore has served as the chaplain for 2d Battalion, Tenth Marines. From October 2023 to March 2025, he served as the chaplain for First Battalion, Eighth Marines, where he deployed on the USS New York as part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. LT Moore currently serves as Staff Chaplain for Naval Support Activity—Charleston. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as various other unit and service awards. LT Moore has been married to Melanie for twenty years and is father to Clara (16) and Benjamin (14).
