Director, DLA Disposition Services



Michael O. Cannon serves as Director, DLA Disposition Services, leading nearly 1,500 military and civilian personnel across 73 sites in 15 countries, 41 U.S. states, and three territories. Since 2014, he has overseen global efforts to dispose of excess DoD material, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards through hazardous property disposal, demilitarization, property reuse, and recycling initiatives. Mr. Cannon joined the Senior Executive Service in November 2014 following a distinguished 33-year Air Force career, retiring as a colonel. He began his military service in 1981 as an enlisted aircrew life support specialist, earning a commission in 1989 after graduating from Eastern Illinois University. His command experience includes the 43d Supply Squadron and 43d Logistics Readiness Squadron at Pope AFB, 62d Aerial Port Squadron at McChord AFB, and multiple deployed squadrons and a group in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. He also led the 727th Air Mobility Squadron at RAF Mildenhall, U.K., and a DLA Support Team in theater. Staff assignments include roles at Air Mobility Command as Chief of Supply Analysis, Executive Officer to the Logistics Director, and Deputy Chief, Materiel Readiness Division. Before becoming Director, he served as Deputy Commander, 521st Air Mobility Operations Group in Rota, Spain, Business Manager for Energy Convergence (DLA J6), and Deputy Director of Materiel Policy, Process and Assessment (DLA J3). Mr. Cannon holds master’s degrees in logistics management and military operational arts and sciences, a bachelor’s degree, two associate degrees, and a certificate in supply chain management. His decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak leaf clusters.
