C267 | Esports Athletes: Recruitment, Retention, and Scholarships (Room 201)

Learn the ins and outs of the process of recruiting and retaining student-athletes for esports programs in middle and high school. This session will dig into the development of a recruitment philosophy, the best places to find and connect with potential recruits, how to structure campus visits, how to design recruitment timelines, and how to make them eligible for a scholarship offer. And once student-athletes come to campus, it is important they have successful academic, personal, and social experiences in addition to successful esports experiences, to foster retention. To that end, you’ll gain insight on how to balance the demands of practice with successful academic progress, including study tables, tutoring, fitness, and other team-building activities. Note: This session was created in conjunction with program partner, National Association of Esports Coaches and Directors (NAECAD).
