C391 | Catch the Coding Bug! (Room 248-249)

Think insects, not glitches... How can you support content standards and spark student excitement? Discover how two middle school teachers integrated their coding and public speaking classes to reinforce science and ELA content. Students formed teams to create retro style video games based on the local history of a yellow fever epidemic. A local field trip to historic sites served as the kick-off event, followed by guest speakers and student research. Using storytelling, the design process, and basic coding, life science and ELA standards were reinforced through this semester-long project completed through two different elective classes. Explore ways you can implement this project-based approach in your own setting.
