Can a single set of international standards revolutionize access to protected in-vehicle network data? The answer is yes, and the great news is that this design already exists! It’s known as the Secure Vehicle Interface (SVI) standard, and it’s based on an existing set of engineering specifications and technical reports developed and published by the International Organization for Standards (ISO), SAE International, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and other global standards organizations. Vehicle manufacturers can incorporate SVI in new car architectures to provide a single, secure, standards-based access point for in-vehicle networks. Aftermarket engineers can use this same design in their add-on devices to retrofit most of the existing fleet of vehicles. In today’s session we’ll present a brief, non-technical overview of the SVI design, describe its business benefits, and see a demonstration of SVI in action using a live vehicle network model.
