In 1972, Jay "Sparky" Longley realized surfers needed a better sandal that wouldn't break and litter the beaches. In his garage through trial and error, Jay formulated his own glue and developed a sandal made with a layered construction. This Rainbow® Sandals combines improved densities of sponge rubber, better leather sources, bonded nylon thread and a 2000 lbs parachute test box X stitch toe piece. Because of the layered construction, Jay was able to fix the sandals if they ever broke instead of letting them end up in a landfill. The word spread about these sandals that would mold your your own personal feet and last longer than anything out there and Rainbow® Sandals was officially incorporated in San Clemente, CA in 1974.

Today, Jay and Rainbow® Sandals goal remains the same: producing high-quality sandals that don't end up in landfills. That commitment doesn't end when our sandals leave the store. If your Rainbow®'s are nearing the end of their run and are past warranty, please return them. We will repair and donate them to people in need.
