Christine Mottau is an American artist based in NYC, exhibiting regularly in galleries since the 1980’s. Mottau was educated at AIB and the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Her work is represented by Ceres Gallery in NYC, where she shows her paintings, drawings and sculptures in solo exhibitions. Mottau’s new work is based on chakra meditation theory. The collection represents a turn inward.
The color and light captures swirling psychic energy with luminous reds, shimmering purples and searing greens. Mottau layers translucent colors to construct an immersive sense of form and depth. With little discernible brushwork, each abstraction appears ephemeral, evocative of transitory images coming into consciousness. Throughout her work, Mottau portrays a sense of beauty to emotionally connect the viewer to a space of tranquility and gesture toward individual and collective transcendence.
