The goal of Ajiri Tea Company is to create a sustainable cycle of employment and education in western Kenya. And, of course, a delicious cup of coffee and tea!
Our tea is handpicked on small-scale farms in western Kenya. We purchase it directly from a cooperative of farmers. Our coffee is grown on small farms in Central Kenya, and is freshly roasted to order. We have won two First Place Awards at the North American Tea Championships, and two Buyer's Choice Awards for our black tea.
The word "Ajiri" means "to employ" in Swahili. We employ 63 women to make the labels for the tea boxes by hand, using dried bark from banana trees. Each label is unique.
100% of profits are used to pay school fees for orphans in western Kenya. This year, we are sponsoring 29 students in school-- 15 high schoolers and 14 primary schoolers.
