IGS North America, formerly known as NAGS (the North American Geosynthetics Society), was established as a Chapter of the IGS (International Geosynthetics Society) in 1988. IGS-NA (The North American Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society) is an organization in which individual and student members comprise the learned society whose mission is to support the development of geosyntheitc technologies through education, communication and networking.
The mission of IGS North America (The North American Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society) is to provide leadership in advancing the education and research of geosynthetics, in strong cooperation with IGS, via:
- Organization of and participation in technical conferences, seminars and workshops.
- Development and dissemination of tools for geosynthetics education.
- Recognition of technical contributions and innovations regarding geosynthetics.
- Stimulation of geosynthetics research and their applications through the IGS-NA Awards of Excellence Program.
