Normandale Community College is a two-year institution located in Bloomington, MN. We offer a unique experience and opportunity to receive an education in vacuum and thin film technology designed for the technician workforce. With funding support from the National Science Foundation Division of Undergraduate Education (NSF-ATE DUE projects #1400408 and #1700624), Normandale created a curriculum in vacuum and thin film technology that can be delivered to distance sites through the use of both online and video conferencing technologies. The curriculum also features the use of vacuum equipment trainer systems for hands-on learning. A trainer system can be shipped to distance locations and used by students while attending class at their site.
Normandale’s Vacuum Technology Certificate program consists of four semester-long courses: Foundations of Vacuum Science, Introduction to Vacuum Technology, Vacuum Analysis and Troubleshooting, and Thin Film Deposition. The Foundations of Vacuum Science course is a fully online course while the remaining three courses are taught in a video conference classroom with a live instructor and enhanced with online content.
