The Virginia Department of Emergency Management works with local government, state and federal agencies and voluntary organizations to coordinate the Commonwealth of Virginia's all-hazards emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. This is done by providing resources and expertise to our state and local partners throughout our five core mission areas: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery. The Department of Emergency Management operates the Virginia Emergency Operations Center, Watch Center, and Joint Information Center, in addition to 7 regional offices throughout the Commonwealth which house regional planners, response personnel, and our chief regional coordinators.
