Kelly Nantel is a globally recognized strategist and communications thought leader with more than 25 years of experience in executive communications, policymaking and crisis planning and response. In 2015 she was named Vice President of Communications & Advocacy at the National Safety Council. At NSC, Kelly has advanced successful advocacy campaigns to improve safety in the nation’s workplaces, homes and communities and roadways. She has led the development of digital communications, social media content, video productions, and a series of powerful position papers; strengthening the NSC brand and raising the organization’s profile. Kelly Prior to joining the National Safety Council, Kelly served as the Director of Public Affairs at the National Transportation Safety Board. There she significantly enhanced the NTSB’s communications capabilities and improved the agency’s visibility and reputation through targeted communications programs, innovative use of social media, and strategic and tactical message development and delivery. Kelly has coordinated crisis communications for dozens of major transportation investigations, including airline crashes, train collisions, gas explosions, bridge collapses and maritime accidents. A few examples include such high profile cases as the crash of Virgin Galactic’s Spaceship II and Asiana Airlines flight 214 and the derailment of Amtrak 188 in Philadelphia. Previously, Kelly led a team of public affairs professionals at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement where she served as the agency’s chief spokesperson on major national security investigations, as well as human trafficking, money laundering and drug trafficking cases and immigration enforcement. Kelly began her communication career at the Massachusetts Department of Correction where she led external affairs. From there, she advanced to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety, managing communications for the Secretary of Public Safety.
