COL Douglas was commissioned through ROTC at Austin Peay State University as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. After an initial tour as a Vulcan/Stinger platoon leader with the 2-44th Air Defense Artillery Battalion. He subsequently branched transferred to the Signal Corps and was reassigned to the 501st Signal Battalion, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. He subsequently moved to Saudi Arabia, where he commanded the 580th Signal Company. His company provided the strategic communications entry point for SW Asia, as well as local telecommunication service for American Embassy in Riyadh, JTF-SWA and USMTM. COL Douglas was later assigned to the Pentagon as an Intern to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J6 Directorate. After completing his internship, he became the Assistant Executive Officer for the Director of Command, Control, Communications and Computer (now Army G6). Leaving the Pentagon, COL Douglas was then assigned to the 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii. While there, COL Douglas served as the Division Radio Officer, the Telecommunications Officer and as 3rd Infantry Brigade S6. During this time, he deployed in support of International Forces East Timor as the J6 Plans Officer. He returned to the 101st Airborne Division to serve as a Brigade S6, 501st Signal Battalion S3 and the G6 Plans Officer. He deployed once again with the Division, this time in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. COL Douglas was subsequently assigned as the Director for J6 at Special Operations Command-South. While there, he was responsible for the communications for all Special Operations forces within Caribbean, South, and Central America region. Later he assumed command of the 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, Fort Huachuca, AZ. While in command, COL Douglas, deployed once again in support of Operation Iraq Freedom/Operation New Dawn.
