Eric Goldstein serves as Senior Counselor to the Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In this role, he leads strategic cybersecurity initiatives, coordinates cross-cutting cybersecurity programs across DHS and the federal government, and serves as a principal liaison with senior leaders and external stakeholders. He played a key role in internally coordinating DHS’s response to the OPM breach and in crisis communications with Congress. Prior to this position, Mr. Goldstein managed planning, training, and governance activities for the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program, a government-wide initiative to identify and prioritize cybersecurity risks on federal networks. Preceeding his time at DHS, Mr. Goldstein served at the Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute (HSSAI), a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) supporting DHS, where he authored reports on cyber-physical convergence, on evaluating the efficacy of cybersecurity information sharing, and on methods of evaluating the impact of information sharing on the prevalance and impact of cyber incidents. He previously served in critical infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, and emergency management positions for state and local government, including in the District of Columbia and the State of Illinois. He holds a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University and a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
