U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Welton Chase assumed duties as Director of C4/Cyber, U.S. European Command in May 2014. Prior to this, he served in the Pentagon with the Joint Staff as a division chief in the Plans and Policy Directorate, C4/Cyber Directorate and as an executive assistant to the Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2011 to 2014. Chase was commissioned in May 1987 through the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at Widener University in Chester, Penn. He was designated a distinguished military graduate and began his career as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Chase holds a Master of Science degree in telecommunications from the University of Colorado-Boulder; a Master of Science degree in national resource strategy from the National Defense University’s Industrial College; and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Widener University, Penn. His previous assignments include: instrumentation engineer at the Test and Experimentation Command (TEXCOM); platoon leader and battalion maintenance officer for 67th Signal Battalion (Bn); S-4 of the 25th Signal Bn; assistant S-3 of the 327th Signal Bn (Airborne); company commander of D Company, 327th Signal Bn (Airborne); and the operations officer at U.S. Army Space Command, Europe. From 1998 – 2001, Chase was assigned to the First Digitized Division, the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Fort Hood, Texas. During this assignment he served as the S-3 for the 124th Signal Bn and subsequently as the assistant division signal officer (ADSO). In 2001, he was assigned to U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt AFB, Neb., where he served in the J3 as a command post engineer and subsequently in the headquarters as the aide-de-camp to the combatant commander.
