Jim Peterson has formal training in the use of explosives at DTA in Florida prior to obtaining a blaster’s license in the state of Kentucky, followed by 12 years of drill and blast hands-on supervision in underground mining. Jim spent 5 years managing production drilling and blasting contracts across the U.S. for a contract drilling division of a multinational corporation. His expertise includes servicing metallic mining, aggregate clients and military quarry operations. The next 25 years, he worked for drill manufacturers focusing on the drill and blast applications in sales. During this time, he provided best-practices consultation to mine operations and drilling contractors on six continents around the world. Jim has been the surface rock drill group trainer and subject matter expert for drilling and explosives usage providing all global training for Caterpillar and CAT dealers. He currently works in Caterpillar’s Minestar Solution group, providing application expertise for drilling and blasting for the technology programs. He currently serves as chairman for the Driller’s Section of the ISEE.
