John J. Carney is a litigation partner and Co-leader of BakerHostetler's White Collar, Investigations and Securities Enforcement and Litigation Team. Mr. Carney focuses on the defense of complex accounting and securities matters and currently serves as a Securities and Exchange Commission receiver over an international investment advisory firm. Mr. Carney also counsels large multi-national companies, including construction companies, on ethics and compliance matters. Mr. Carney was formerly Chief of the Securities and Health Care Fraud Unit and an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, Securities and Exchange Commission investigative and trial counsel, and certified public accountant at KPMG. Mr. Carney has been recognized as one of the best securities enforcement defense lawyers in the U.S. in the Securities Docket "Enforcement 40." He is ranked in Chambers USA and is also certified in financial forensics by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He lectures extensively at domestic and international conferences and training seminars on anticorruption and anti¬-money laundering laws, corporate governance, compliance and disclosure, insider trading, securities, tax and other financial crimes, and defending complex and multijurisdictional civil and criminal cases. Mr. Carney received his B.A., cum laude, from Rutgers University, and his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law.
