John Kreger is vice president of Public Sector Programs within The MITRE Corporation’s Center for Programs and Technology. He is responsible for the organization’s technical work and developing whole of government solutions to address challenges in aviation, financial and economic, healthcare, homeland security, and veterans program areas. Kreger previously served as vice president and director of the Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute (HSSEDITM), a federally funded research and development center that MITRE operates on behalf of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The HSSEDI provides systems engineering and technology expertise that supports DHS acquisition strategy and improved capabilities to ensure the nation’s security. Prior to that, Kreger was responsible for integrating systems engineering capabilities and ensuring best practices across MITRE’s efforts to support the multiple agencies within DHS. He also ensured the quality of MITRE’s diverse portfolio of work programs for DHS. That work crossed such specialized areas as cybersecurity, biometrics, border security, enterprise services, and transportation. Kreger retired from the U.S. Navy as a captain, having served five years on board Navy nuclear submarines and 22 years in the Naval Reserve, including three command tours. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry/natural science from Muhlenberg College. Kreger completed the Air Command and Staff College’s Joint Military Operations program and earned his master’s degree in systems engineering from George Mason University. In 2018, he completed the Higher Ambition Leadership Institute (HALI) executive program.
