John Christakos is the President and Co-Founder of Blu Dot, a designer and maker of modern home furnishings. Christakos, along with Maurice Blanks and Charlie Lazor, started Blu Dot in 1997 to bring good design to as many people as possible by creating products that are useful, affordable and desirable. Blu Dot is sold through stand-alone stores in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Chicago, Minneapolis, Mexico City, Monterrey, Mexico and Sydney, online at bludot.com and in more than 50 independent retailers worldwide. Blu Dot’s work has received numerous national and international design awards, including the 2018 National Design Award for Product Design from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and the ICFF Editors Award for Best Body of Work in 2010. Blu Dot’s work is in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt, the Minneapolis Institute of Art as well as other museums and has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Walker Art Center and Centre Pompidou. He is a graduate of Williams College where he was a double major in Studio Art and Economics. He later earned an MBA at the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
