Mike currently serves as the Technical Food Safety Manager for UL-Everclean, a nationwide 3rd Party food safety auditing company. His team is responsible for providing technical food safety advice and support to UL’s food safety auditors nationwide. Mike also served in a regulatory role for 25 years as a Program Manager for Orange County Environmental Health’s Food & Pool Safety Program overseeing a team of 105 field inspectors and 12 supervisors. His duties also included overseeing the Foodborne Illness Prevention Section, Housing & Institutions and the Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. Mike participated as a steering committee member for the Waste Not OC coalition team, a team committed to ending food hunger and insecurity in Orange County, Chair for the California Retail Food Safety Coalition (CRFSC) in Sacramento that assisted in writing and approving new food safety regulations and a Coordinator for an emergency response team assigned to the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). Mike also is an adjunct professor for Cal State University San Bernardino and Cal State University Fullerton teaching two upper division courses related to food safety; “Foodborne Illnesses and Their Prevention” and “Principles of Environmental Health” courses. Mike holds a B.S. degree in Environmental Health (1986) and a B.A. Degree in Biology (1992) from California State University- San Bernardino and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree (2013) from California State University- Fullerton.
