Mark T. Matthews was appointed Vice President for Air Force Programs, Raytheon U.S. Business Development, Following graduate school, Matthews served on the Air Staff as a member of the Checkmate Division where he was one of the authors of Instant Thunder, the initial planning effort that evolved into the Desert Storm air campaign against Iraq. His other Pentagon assignments included tours as the Deputy Director for Operational Plans and Joint Matters and as the Assistant Deputy Director for Global Operations on the Joint Staff. Matthews later served as Director of Requirements, Headquarters Air Combat Command; and culminated his military career as the Director, Strategy, Plans and Assessments, U.S. Forces-Iraq in Baghdad in September 2011. Prior to joining Raytheon, Matthews served as an Associate with Monitor National Security Programs. Matthews retired as a Major General, USAF, after 33 years of service. He entered the Air Force in 1977 with a commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy, earning a bachelor’s degree in engineering sciences as an honor graduate. He later earned a master’s degree in operations research from Princeton University. A distinguished graduate of the USAF F-15 Fighter Weapons School, Matthews was a member of the initial cadre to stand-up F-15s in Alaska. He commanded the 435th Fighter Squadron; the 607th Air Operations Group in Korea and the 48th Fighter Wing in England. He also served as Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology.
