Colonel Gary Salmans is the Senior Materiel Leader (SML) of the Cryptologic and Cyber Systems Division which falls under the Program Executive Officer (PEO), Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks (C3I&N), Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Air Force Materiel Command. He leads a team of 1,023 military, civil service, and contract support personnel, acquiring and providing depot support for $3 billion in worldwide assets, with an acquisition and sustainment budget of $4.5 billion (FYDP) for the Department of Defense and national space systems. As the SML, Colonel Salmans directs cryptologic and information assurance products’ lifecycle management of national and international communications security and signal intelligence systems with operations located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland TX. Additionally, the Division also shares a mission for Cyberspace support to Air Force Space Command and 24th Air Force to provide technology development, acquisition, sustainment, and demilitarization of cyber systems and products that provide mission assurance. Colonel Salmans was commissioned in 1991 as a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps from Texas Christian University in Ft Worth, Texas. Colonel Salmans is a career program manager with broadening tours in maintenance and personnel and has served in the Air Force Materiel Command, Air Mobility Command, Air Force Personnel Center, Headquarters Air Force (HAF), and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense. He has worked on a variety of weapon systems in various phases of development, including test modification, C-5 Modernization, development and fielding of numerous aircrew performance equipment, including ejection seats, helmets, and uniforms. He is a graduate of the USAF Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
