Leon Jakimič was born in Liberec, Czech Republic in 1975 to a glassmaking family. Completing his Czech high school studies in 1993, he then attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a minor in Economics. He first came to Hong Kong in 1999 and completed his studies here at the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA programme in 2005. In 2007 he founded LASVIT in Hong Kong (Holding Company and Asia Pac Headquarters) and in the Czech Republic (Glass Manufacturing, Design, and R&D). The company manufactures unique works of glass, including bespoke glass art installations, design lighting and other collections, as well as architectural glass elements. Over the course of 10 years Jakimič built LASVIT into a multinational company with four production facilities and 15 sales branches and Ateliers around the world. Yet all LASVIT glass is produced exclusively in the Czech Republic. Mr. Jakimič considers himself a Czech patriot with a mission to promote the fame of Bohemian glass and the craftsmanship of Czech artisans around the world. “For me, luxury is mainly about authenticity and that must be connected to a particular place of origin and where craft has a thousand-year-old tradition,” he says. The aim and the vision for the company is to become the most inspirational glassmaking company in the world. He is currently a member of multiple professional organizations, including the Hong Kong - Europe Business Council. The Business Council serves as a channel for high-level dialogue on trade, investment and economic cooperation between the economies of Hong Kong and Europe. Mr. Jakimič is also a member and Executive Committee Officer of YPO Hong Kong Chapter.
