James (Dudley) Light has been affiliated with the Registered Apprenticeship system for 48 years, starting as a first period carpentry apprentice in 1970. He later became an instructor, and then lead instructor, before accepting a position as the technical coordinator for an international training fund. He later became the Executive Director of the Carpenters’ International Training, where he was responsible for over 250 apprenticeship programs with an annual budget of over $500 million. He also served on the advisory committee to the U.S. Secretary of Labor on Apprenticeship. Mr. Light joined the USDOL Office of Apprenticeship in July of 2011 as the Arkansas State Director and, in 2014, became the Texas State Director. In 2016, he became the Regional Director for “Region 4,” which covers 11 states.
