Gary Umphlett




Gary Umphlett joined the Virginia Beach Fire Department in 1983 and was promoted to Captain in 2007. During his tenure at the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Gary was chosen as City of Virginia Beach Hall of Fame City Employee of the Year in 2004, Virginia Beach Firefighter of the Year in 2005. According to Stihl Inc., Gary has developed the world’s finest Chain Saw Safety Program.” Over the years, Gary has assisted Stihl Inc. in developing and improving their safety apparel (chaps and helmet system) and was instrumental in developing the “460 Rescue Magnum Saw” which has been utilized by firefighters all over the world in life saving endeavors.
