John Henderson earned a B.S. in Math and Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994, and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2000. Since joining MITRE in 1999, he has been working on diverse topics such as designing annotation standards, named entity recognition, recognizing variant forms of transliterated names, and out-of-vocabulary word repair for speech recognition systems. He has recently investigated tighter coupling of speech recognition and machine translation models and high-volume blog surveillance. His current work includes forecasting public opinion poll outcomes based on social media and characterizing unknown authors from their text.
